The Zurich main train station (called Zurich HB) is a huge mall. It's also very well labeled and there is a lot of good snacking to be done. In addition to an outpost of chocolate-and-macaron confectionary Sprungli, there's also a market held every Wednesday.
Fresh...nougat! This stuff is so crazy looking I had to take many pictures.
Not nougat. Cheese! The one on the right is with grappa and fruit.
The whitish small round at the front has chilis in it. The stacked chunks at right are coated with hay.
Birnenbrot is pear bread. Those stuffed loaves are really heavy. They should call it birnenbrick. Eh? Eh?
This is another very Swiss dessert. It's Bundner Nusstorte (Bundner indicates it's from the Canton of Graubundner, the capital of which is the city of Chur. I really liked Chur. This nut tart , not so much.
"More like a pie," the vendor told me. I thought I would love this, but I didn't. The one I tried had a very heavy almond-flavored crust, almost fake almond. The filling was walnuts maybe. Couldn't tell. I'll try again though. Because that just the kind of persistent and committed dessert eater I am.
Handmade hard candies in all kinds of flavors. The blue container is licorice; the yellow is lemon.
Looks like it could be falafel, but it's...cookies!
These are brown-nosing cakes of gingerbread, I think, another dessert from the Appenzell region. I don't like gingerbread so I haven't tried them, even though they are pretty.
